Going about German Shepherd Obedience Training
Other things apart, there was one thing for sure. This family had not imparted training to their German Shepherd and the telltale signs were visible all over the place. Dog excreta could be seen all over the place and the chewed off corners of the sofa were something which the trained eyes could never miss. Dried up pools of liquid near the walls were indicative and told a story by themselves. These people owned man's best friend but they had not imparted German Shepherd obedience training to their dog. Those who own this particular breed of dogs should know that German Shepherds are by nature pack animals and follow their leader, hence it is important to establish themselves as the leader of the pack early on. German Shepherd obedience training should be started just when you have purchased the puppy and it should not be left for later on. Yes, you might train them later too, but like humans, they too pick up commands fast and quick if trained at a younger age. One of the most important parts of German Shepherd obedience training is teaching them what is correct and what is not. You might be interested to train your German Shepherd different types of tricks like sitting down when prompted or fetching objects when commanded but the most vital is teaching them about housebreaking so that they do not spoil your rooms with their excreta. This is the first and foremost thing that they have to be taught. Do not hesitate to rebuke them if they are doing something wrong. Like a human being, they too have to be taught what is wrong and what is right. At the same time, they should be rewarded each time they do a thing correctly. This does not always mean giving them material rewards like biscuits etc. Once this part of the training is over, it is time to move over to teach them other basic commands like `sit' & `fetch'. Many people in eagerness to complete German Shepherd obedience training quickly, try to train their dog, several commands at the same time. This is not just done and will end up in confusion and wasted time. Make a list of the commands you want to train him and undertake them one by one. When the 1st lesson in the list has been completed, start with the other one down the list. There is one more important thing that you should remember during German Shepherd obedience training. Dogs have a limited attention time span. Do not spend the whole day training them. Train them for short spans of time. Like young kids, they too need rest after a few moments. However, this does not mean that you skip the training process for days on end. Do it consistently every day and one fine morning you will be surprised to see how your training has paid off when you feel your German Shepherd tugging at your feet. It wants you to take it out for a stroll. More tips for training your dog to obey commands you will find at the 6th chapter of "German Shepherd Handbook" Must Have For German Shepherd Owners
